How it started

The original logo had a use of dull colors and was a little outdated when it comes to design elements. The client had mentioned it felt a little emotionles when looking back at it.

Sketches

Original color palette

The original color palette was based off of the Mardigras colors, but were a little dull. This would give the design a rusty old look. My main focus was to change this and make sure the colors I used would give the logo a vibrant energetic look.

Typography

When thinking about typography I had to go back to my research and figure out how I can incorporate the Louisiana culture into my type. One of the biggest festivals in Louisiana is Mardigras. Looking at the typeface used was super unique. Some can be very bold or have a script like design. The main part I learned from this was how fun and inviting the typeface looked reason why I chose “Christmas Beach.”

For my other designs I would also incorporate All Round Gothic due to its readability but also has this unique look that fits well with the typography on the logo.

Color palette

The colors I went with were based off the festival Mardigras. They use purples, oranges and greens. For my pelican I would try to keep it realistic and just used whites, back and orange for the beak.

Going Digital

For this project, I was tasked to redesign this companies brand. Louisiana Glynn has been doing catering and serving food at events for the past four years in Colorado. Bringing smiles and a little taste of Louisiana to Colorado is the companies mission.

The owner wanted the design to have a fun and inviting feeling so I wanted to create a little mascot for the logo. The mascot would have a family friendly look that would express the companies identity.

Speaking to the client I was made aware of how proud he was being born in Louisiana and his up brining. His motives are always about family and staying positive.

With this idea In the back of my mind I had to think about what the main symbol would look like. I noticed the Louisiana flag has a pelican and it is considered the state bird. With that being said I knew immediately to incorporate a pelican onto my design.

Final Logo Design

Business Stationaries

For these stationaries I wanted to keep a consistent look so I used a slightly darker purple to let the logo stand out. I also kept the design pretty simple with not adding many details.

The business cards and the letterhead have contact information for the consumers.

When going digital at first, I thought about incorporating the state somehow but I quickly realized it was unnecessary. Saying Louisiana at the bottom should be enough. I also didn’t like the pelican just sitting on the floor. I felt it looked a little lazy and lethargic laying down.

This final logo design shows the feeling of happiness behind cooking for Glynn Hatcherson (head chef). The cartoon logo gives a friendly inviting feeling for friends and family. Not only that but it also demonstrates imagery that represents Louisiana.
